CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team was ranked 11th in the Campbell/ITA Tennis poll released on Tuesday. The Tigers went 1-1 last week to finish at 17-6 for the regular season. Head Coach Nancy Harris’ squad will begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on Friday after earning the number three seed with its 9-2 ACC record.
Ani Mijacika fell from the #1 single spot after spending six weeks as the nation’s top player, while rookie Josipa Bek and two doubles teams were also ranked. Mijacika suffered a pair of losses to ranked players last weekend but still boasts a 28-7 overall record with five wins over current top-10 players.
Josipa Bek, who recently became just the fourth different Clemson player since 1996 to win at least 30 matches in a single year, was ranked 13th in Tuesday’s poll. The rookie from Osijek, Croatia is riding a 10-match winning streak into the conference tournament.
Mijacika and Bek were also listed in the doubles polls with partners Ina Hadziselimovic. Mijacika and Wong moved up to sixth with a 14-4 overall record and a 12-3 mark in dual matches, while Bek and Hadziselimovic are winners of nine of their last 10 matches to improve to 13-5 for the year and earn the #33 ranking.
Clemson will open play at the conference championship on Friday afternoon as the Tigers will take on the winner of Thursday’s match between North Carolina and Maryland.
