Clemson Opens Play at Banks of Tennessee Intercollegiate

CLEMSON, SC – Junior Corbin Mills will lead the Clemson golf team into action Friday at the 14th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate @ Blackthorn Club in Jonesboro, TN. The Tigers will be one of 15 teams competing for the championship on the par 72 Blackthorn Club at The Ridges Course. The event will cover three days with the teams completing 18 holes per day.

The ACC is well represented in the 15-team field as Clemson, NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are all in the event. Other team include Army, host school East Tennessee State, Kent State, Louisville, Memphis, Missouri, Tennessee, Toledo, Villanova and UNC Wilmington.

Mills is coming off a victory at the Jerry Pate Invitational on October 3, the first college victory of his career. This past summer he won the United States Public Links Championship, an individual amateur event.

The native of Easley, SC had rounds of 65-69-67 to win the Jerry Pate with a nine-under par 201 score. That tied the Clemson record for lowest score for a 54-hole event. Mills now has four straight rounds in the 60s and can set a school record with another round in the 60s on Friday. He has a team best 69.17 stroke average for the two tournaments so far.

Senior McCuen Elmore will be Clemson’s number-two player. He has had a strong start to the season with a 71.5 stroke average for six rounds and two events. Elmore has finished in the top 15 at both the Carpet Classic and the Jerry Pate joining Mills as the only Tigers with two top 15 finishes so far.

Thomas Bradshaw also will be in the lineup this weekend. The sophomore had an outstanding round of 69 in the first round at the Jerry Pate, then struggled the rest of the tournament. Bradshaw has a 75.67 stroke average so far this year.

Billy Kennerly and Hayden Garrett are two freshmen who will round out Larry Penley’s lineup. Kennerly has a 74.33 stroke average for two events, including a final round 69 at the Jerry Pate that brought him his first career top 25 finish with a 220 score. Garrett, a native of Easley, SC, the same hometown as Mills, will be making his Clemson debut.
