Clemson Golf Finishes Ninth at Puerto Rico Classic

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson golf team shot a four-over par 292 score on Tuesday in the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club. The Tigers finished the 54-hole event +9 and in ninth place out of 15 teams. Alabama fired a 14-under 274 on Tuesday to claim the victory, finishing ahead of Georgia Tech (-23) and Oklahoma State (-17).

Crawford Reeves fired a three-under par 69 on Tuesday, the best round of the afternoon by any Tiger golfer. He had rounds of 71-73-69 for the 54 holes and finished in a tie for 11th place individually, three-under par. Reeves did not card a single bogey on Tuesday and birdied three of his final six holes to finish strong for Clemson.

Jacob Burger shot a three-over par 75 on Tuesday, but finished the event with a two-over score of 218. Burger finished in a tie for 31st overall in the individual standings, boosted by a strong 69 in round two.

Clemson’s No. 2 counter on Tuesday and third-best player overall this week was Corbin Mills. The sophomore shot an even par 72. He birdied the par 5 eighth hole, his final hole of the tournament. Mills was three-over for the tournament and tied for 35th individually after rounds of 72-75-72.

The final scorer for the Tigers on Tuesday was McCuen Elmore, who put together rounds of 73-74-76 for a seven-over, 223 total over the 54 holes. Elmore was even par through his first nine holes Tuesday, but he took a serious hit on the par 4 first hole when he carded a triple bogey.

The Tigers return to the course March 7-8 for the USC Aiken Cleveland Classic in Aiken, SC.
