Clemson Finishes Second at Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH, N.C. – Stephen Behr, Cody Proveaux and Austin Langdale all had scores of 73 to  finish in a tie for eighth place individually and lead Clemson to a second-place team finish out of 15 teams at the Wolfpack Spring Open at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the NC State campus in Raleigh, N.C.  The event concluded regular season play for the Tigers, who will start play at the ACC Championships at The Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point, N.C. on Friday.

The Wolfpack Spring Open was scheduled for a two-day 36 hole event, but the Saturday round was rained out.  Thus the 15 teams played for the championship over  just 18 holes on Sunday.  It was the first time Clemson played in a tournament that was limited to just 18 holes since November of 1986.

Eighth ranked Virginia won the tournament with a 292 score, three shots better than Clemson’s 295 total.  Loyola of Maryland was third at 296, followed by NC State at 298 at Duke at 299.

Behr, Proveaux and Langdale all had rounds of  73 on the par 72 course.  For Behr it was his second top 10 of the year and his best finish of the year.  The sophomore had three birdies and four bogeys.

For Proveaux it was his best finish since a fifth place in the first tournament of the year at the Carpet Classic in Dalton, Ga.  The sophomore from Leesville, S.C,  had three birdies and two double bogeys in scoring his 73.  Langdale, a freshman from Pendleton, had three birdies and four bogeys.  It was his second top 10 of the year.

Sophomore Miller Capps and freshman Carson Young both had rounds of 76 on Sunday.  Young had three birdies.  Both players tied for 26th among the 83 golfers who competed on Sunday.
