GREENVILLE, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team closed play at the Furman Fall Classic on Sunday, highlighted by Romy Koelzer‘s flight five singles championship and Yana Koroleva‘s win over No. 18 Brynn Boren of Tennessee in the flight one singles draw.
Koelzer defeated Leyla Erkan of Florida State, 7-5, 6-4 a day after beating Yasmeen Ebada 6-4, 6-1 in the second round. Ani Miao, who reach the finals in flight four singles, fell to Florida State’s Mia Vriens on Sunday, 6-1, 6-3.
Koroleva earned valuable experience in her first three collegiate matches, though she dropped two matches to top-26 players nationally. She finally broke through on Sunday, defeating Boren, 6-2, 6-3.
In other action, Amy Sargeant defeated Tristen Dewar, 6-4, 7-5 for 5th place in flight three.
In the flight two doubles championship, Koroleva and freshman Tristen Dewar fell to Tessa Lyons and Gina Suarez-Malaguti, 8-4.
The team’s next action will be next week, as the Tigers will send a pair of players to the ITF event in Gainesville, FL, and later to the Roberta Allison Collegiate Classic in Tuscaloosa, AL.
