Clemson, SC-Ben Martin and Phillip Mollica both had top 20 finishes to lead Clemson to an eighth-place finish at the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate at Southern Highlands Country Club in Las Vegas, NV. The Tigers tied with Georgia Tech at 896 in the 15-team field that included 11 top 20 teams. UCLA won the event with an 874 score, three shots better than Georgia on the par 72 course.
Martin had a 73 on Sunday, Clemson’s top round of the five Tiger competitors, while Mollica finished with a 74. Both players had a 221 total for the 54 holes, tied for 18th. Mollica, who got into the Clemson lineup when Kyle Stanley qualified for the PGA Tour’s Arnold Palmer Invitational next week, was one under par over his last 36 holes. He had an opening round 78 and was in 50th place.
Sam Saunders finished 39th with a 227 total, while David May was 56th at 232. Tanner Ervin was 63rd with a 233 total.
Clemson finished strong to reach tie with Georgia Tech. The Tigers played the last five holes in three under par after playing the first 13 holes in 17 over.
Clemson will next be in action March 30 when it travels to the Augusta State Invitational.
