Clemson Falls to Fourth Place at Southern Highlands

Clemson, SC–The Clemson golf team shot a 298 team score, 15 strokes worse than its opening round total on Friday, and dropped from first to fourth after two rounds at the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate in Las Vegas, NV. The final round will be played on the par 72 course on Sunday.

The Tigers played the last three holes at six over par as a team, contributing to the 10 over par score on Saturday. Oklahoma State shot 18 under as a team on Saturday, thanks to an incredible 10 under par 72 by Morgan Hoffmann, and took a 12 shot lead entering the final round over second place and tournament host UNLV. Arizona is in third place, five shots ahead of Clemson. The Tigers are in fourth place at 581, followed by Florida at 583, Georgia Tech at 584 and Georgia at 587.

Clemson was led by Ben Martin on Saturday with an even par 72. The native of Greenwood stands at five under par 139 for the two rounds and is in fourth place, five shots off the pace set by Hoffmann. Phillip Mollica had a bogey on the final hole and shot 73 for the day. He stands in seventh place after two rounds at two under par 142.

Kyle Stanley shot a 75 on Saturday and is in 20th place in the individual race at 146. David May had a 78 on Saturday, the same score as Sam Saunders. Saunders was the only Tiger who improved in the second round. He was the only Tiger to birdie the final hole and hopefully he will carry some momentum into Sunday’s final round.
