Clemson Defeats William & Mary, 2-0

CLEMSON, S.C.- Freshman Heather Beem scored one goal and assisted on another in leading 12th-ranked Clemson to a 2-0 win over 10th-ranked William & Mary in a women’s intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, S.C., Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Clemson improves its record to 2-0 on the year while William & Mary is now 0-1 this season. The Lady Tigers are ranked 12th in the NSCAA poll and 10th in the Soccer America poll. William & Mary is ranked 10th in the NSCAA poll and 15th in the Soccer America listing.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead with 31:01 gone in the match. Alison Burpee headed the ball to Beem in the box. Beem chipped the ball into the goal for her second goal of the year.

The Lady Tigers added the insurance goal at the 77:27 point. Beem sent a pass to Cindy Mullinix creating a one-on-one situation with William & Mary’s goalkeeper Michelle Horbaly. Mullinix beat the goalkeeper on the right side and sent a six yard shot into the net for her first goal of the season.

Clemson will play host to Washington on Friday, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lady Tigers’ next action.
