CLEMSON, SC – Dimelon Westfield scored two goals and had one assist in Clemson’s 3-2 win over N.C. State in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer match at Clemson SC Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Clemson improves to 4-1-1 overall, 1-1 in the ACC. N.C. State falls to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in the ACC.
Westfield has scored a team-leading six goals this season. He also has two assists for 14 points, another team high.
Westfield scored at the 10:24 mark with assists by Ricky Lewis and Steven Rhyne. N.C. State tied the score at the 19:08 point as Michael Karim scored with assists by Federico Peria and Aaron King.
Clemson took a 2-1 lead at the 61:24 point in the game as Westfield scored his second goal of the afternoon as Oskar Bringsved and Chase Hilgenbrinck were credited with assists.
The Tigers’ Andre Borges scored his second goal of the season at the 71:31 mark with assists by Nick Rivera and Westfield.
N.C. State narrowed Clemson’s lead to 3-2 when Bryant Salter took the ball down the left side and scored on an unassisted goal with over 10 minutes left in the match.
Clemson was without the services of its starting goalkeeper, Doug Warren. Warren was diagnosed with mononucleosis last week.
“We need to learn to put games away,” said Clemson Head Coach Doug Warren return is day to day. Right now we want him to get rest.”
Clemson out shot the Wolfpack 34-5 and had 14 corner kicks to N.C. State’s 5.
