Kelly Schneider scored both goals in leading Clemson to a 2-0 win over Kennesaw State in a women’s soccer exhibition match at Clemson, SC Monday night.
Clemson will open the 2004 season on August 27, at Texas and will play at Texas A&M on Sunday, August 29.
Kennesaw State, who won the NCAA Division II National Championship last season, will open its season at the Tennessee Tech Classic at Cookeville, TN on August 27 & 29. Schneider scored on an unassisted goal with 50:18 gone in the match. After a misplay by an Owl defender, Schneider beat the Kennesaw State goalkeeper to her left and sent a shot just inside the right post.
Schneider struck again at the 67:02 point into the match. Kristen Allen sent a pass to Britten Meyer who headed a shot that was saved by a Kennesaw defender. The deflection came back to Schneider who sent a six-yard shot into the goal.
Clemson finished the match with 18 shots and the Owls had six.
“I was pleased with our patience tonight and the way we attacked,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “I wanted more of a transition match. It was tough to get behind their defense with so many defenders. Schneider picked up where she left off last year. She had a great year last season as a freshman. We were glad that our injured players are starting to return and be productive.
“Texas and Texas A&M are two tough top 10 opponents. We look forward to the challenge, and I am confident that we compete with them on the road.”
