CLEMSON, SC–Steven Rhyne scored two goals and John David Brooks scored one goal and added one in leading Clemson to a 3-0 win over Georgia State in an exhibition men’s soccer match at Clemson, SC Friday night.
Clemson will open the 2004 season on Wednesday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. against Lipscomb on Riggs Field.
Rhyne score at the 17:46 mark as he sent a shot into the nets with an assist by Brooks off a corner kick.
Brooks scored off a 22 yard shot right before the half at the 44:51 point into the match.
Rhyne finished the scoring as he converted a penalty kick with 52:58 elapsed in the match.
“In the first half we had a hard time getting started, we seemed lethargic at first,” said Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair. “Phil Marfuggi made a great save and after that we started playing better. We played much better in the second half. Our defense played well and I was pleased with our effort in the second half. Olatomiwa Ogunsola played well as did Steven Rhyne. Rhyne’s goal was great.. Landy Mattison is doing a great job in the back. He makes great decisions. He and Justin Moore are doing a great job. Overall I am pleased with our fitness but we still need to improve in this area.”
