Clemson and Maryland Reach Rain Delay with Tigers Ahead 8-5 in Ninth

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Clemson led Maryland 8-5 in the top of the ninth inning on Saturday when rain forced the game to be postponed until Sunday afternoon at 12 Noon. The game will be finished before the series finale that was scheduled to be played at 1:00 PM.

The Tigers had already scored one run in the top of the inning when second baseman Ryan Riley got his fourth hit of the game to score first baseman Michael Johnson, who tripled to lead off the inning. Designated hitter Zane Green, who was 3-4 with two RBIs, walked and then catcher Seth Miller singled to bring up center fielder Chad Coder facing no outs. The game was halted with a 3-1 count to Coder.

Riley was 4-4 with a double, a walk, a RBI and two runs scored when the game was stopped. Starting catcher Steve Pyzik was 2-3 with three RBIs. Michael Johnson was 3-5 and scored two runs.

Clemson starting pitcher Ryan Childs pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up fours runs, all earned, on seven hits, issuing two walks and striking out two.

The Tigers won Friday’s ACC opener against the Terrapins 8-6 to improve to 12-5 overall and 1-0 in the ACC.
