Clemson and Elon Play to a 1-1 Draw

CLEMSON, SC – Clemson and Elon played to a 1-1 draw in a men’s intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Tuesday night. After the 90 minutes of regulation, two ten minute periods of overtime was played.

Clemson is now 3-4-1 overall, while Elon is 4-2-2 this season.

The Phoenix scored first at the 13:36 mark. Brett Pashall passed the ball to Aaron Parker on the left sideline. Parker crossed the ball to Justin Wyatt. Wyatt fired a shot in six yards in front of the right post to the left wall of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

Clemson knotted the score at the beginning of the second half at the 46:11point in the match, 1:11 into the second half. Tate Parrish played the ball to Tommy Drake off a corner kick. Drake played the ball back to Parrish. Parrish lifted a cross to the center, and David Newton headed the ball in from eight yards out for his second goal of the year.

Elon’s goalkeeper Kyle Boerner finished the match with 11 saves. Clemson outshot the Phoenix 28-11.

“Our finishing is a debacle,” said Clemson Head Coach David Newton and Parker Rogers played well in the back. We are playing well defensively, but we can’t put the ball in the goal.”

Clemson will play host to Duke on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at Historic Riggs Field. The game will be televised on the Fox Soccer Channel.
