CLEMSON, SC – Clemson will play three events in 2012-13 that it did not play in last year, including an appearance in a Midwest event during the regular season for the first time ever according to the schedule announced by Head Coach Larry Penley on Thursday.
The Tigers will play at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois September 30 through October 2, Clemson’s first appearance in the state of Illinois since the 1997 NCAA Tournament when the Tigers finished third in the nation. Charles Warren won the individual National Championship at the Conway Farms Golf Course in that same event. Olympia Fields was the site of the 2003 US Open.
In the spring, Clemson will travel to Raleigh and the Lonnie Poole Course to take part in the Wolfpack Spring Open April 20-21, just five days prior to the beginning of the ACC Tournament. The ACC Tournament will once again be played at the Old North State Club in Uwharrie Point, NC.
This will be the first time Clemson has played a tournament just a week before the ACC tournament since 1999.
Clemson opens its fall schedule at the Carpet Classic at The Farm in Dalton, GA September 8-10. It will be the 21st straight year Clemson has played at The Farm, and the fifth time in six years Clemson has opened its season at the event.
After Clemson’s trip to Illinois for the Fighting Illini Invitational, the Tigers will travel to Birmingham, AL for the Jerry Pate Invitational. Clemson was second at the event last year and has won the tournament five times.
Clemson concludes its fall schedule at the Golf Club of Georgia at the US Collegiate, an event that has one of the top fields in the nation.
Clemson has five regular season tournaments scheduled for the spring season. Clemson begins the spring schedule in Puerto Rico Feb. 24-26 at the Westin Rio Mar Classic. Penley’s team has played at this event every year since 1993, including last year when the Tigers placed second.
Clemson will play at the USC-Aiken Cleveland Classic March 11-12. The Tigers won this tournament at Palmetto Country Club in Aiken, SC last year.
The Tigers will then compete in the Hootie at Bulls Bay for the first time since 2010, March 24-26. That will be followed by Clemson’s annual trip to Augusta, GA for the Augusta State Invitational. It will be held just prior to the Masters, April 6-7.
The Tigers then conclude the spring regular season at the Wolfpack Spring Open in Raleigh, followed by the ACC tournament, April 26-28.
