Clemson 19th in Latest Golf World Coaches Poll

Clemson, SC-The Clemson golf team is ranked 19th in the nation in the latest Golf World Coaches poll announced today. It is the third straight poll Clemson has been in the top 20. Clemson was also ranked 19th in the preseason poll back in September.

Oklahoma State is ranked first, followed by Oregon, Washington and Texas A&M. Stanford is fifth, followed by Augusta State, UCLA, Texas, Southern California and Georgia. Florida State is the highest ranked ACC team with a #12 ranking, while Georgia Tech is 16th and Clemson 19th. Duke is 21st and Virginia 23rd, giving the ACC five of the top 25 teams in the nation.

According to the latest individual rankings, senior Ben Martin is ranked 57th in the latest Sagarin computer rankings. He is 16th in the latest United States Amateur rankings. Luke Hopkins is 88th according to Sagarin, giving Clemson two of the top 100 players in the nation. Freshman Corbin Mills is 112th and Jacob Burger is 118th according to Sagarin.

Clemson’s regular season is complete and the Tigers await an NCAA bid. Regional bids will be extended at 6:00 PM on Monday, May 10. The regional tournament runs May 20-22.

The six 2010 sites and hosts include the Capital City Club in Alpharetta, Ga., with the Georgia Institute of Technology serving as host; The Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.; Carlton Oaks Golf Course in San Diego, Calif., with San Diego State University as host; The Traditions Club in College Station, Texas with Texas A&M University as host; Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., with the University of Washington as host; and the Yale University Golf Course in New Haven, Conn., with Yale as host.
