Catalioto Qualifies for US Public Links

June 19, 2003

Clemson rising sophomore Martin Catalioto has qualified for the United States Public Links Championship. The USGA event will be held July 14-19 at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club’s East Course in Galloway, NJ.

Catalioto qualified with a 142 score over 36 holes at Tunxis Plantation in Farmington, CT earlier this week. He was second among the golfers at that site behind Hector Diaz-Ceballos of Bradenton, FL, who had a 36-hole total of 140.

The United States Public Links Championship has a 36-hole stroke play qualifier, followed by a match play tournament featuring the top 64 players in the stroke play qualifier. The ultimate champion will be extended an invitation to the Masters in April of 2004.

Former Clemson golfers D.J. Trahan (2000) and Kevin Johnson (1987) have won this event previously. Catalioto was a starter on Clemson’s 2002 NCAA Tournament team that finished third in the nation. He red-shirted this past season when Clemson won the National Championship.
