CLEMSON, S.C. — Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain have improved their doubles ranking to No. 42 in the nation. The significant leap from their previous position at No. 70 comes as a result of the pair’s victory over No. 11 Emma Navarro and Hibah Shaikh over Virginia on Friday.
The doubles pairing recently gave the No. 8 pair in the nation a battle in Chapel Hill, but the match was abandoned with Clemson leading 5-4. Including their victory on Court 1 in Wednesday’s ACC first round match, the pair are 14-7 this year and 11-4 on the spring season.
Sophomore Cristina Mayorova also improved her singles ranking to No. 99 from No. 106. Playing primarily from the No. 1 singles position in a loaded ACC, Mayorova has consistently proven herself a fierce competitor and one deserving of national recognition.
Buyckx, DeSpain and Mayorova will be back in action on Thursday in the second round of the ACC Tournament against the fifth-seeded and No. 3 NC State Wolfpack. First serve from the Rome Tennis Center is slated for 3:30 p.m.
