Dec. 6, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – Former Clemson golfer Tommy Biershenk finished in fifth place out of 160 golfers at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in La Quinta, CA on Monday evening to earn his PGA Tour Card for the 2012 season. It will be the 39-year-old golfer’s first year on the PGA Tour.

Biershenk was a letterman on the Clemson golf team from 1993-96 and earned his degree from Clemson in 1997. He was a member of four Clemson NCAA Tournament teams, including three teams that won NCAA Regional titles. He finished eighth individually at the 1994 NCAA Regional at Auburn, AL, helping the Tigers to the regional title.

Biershenk played on the Nationwide Tour this past year and he finished 31st on the money list. He then shot a 14-under-par 418 to finish fifth at the Qualifier and earn his card. He had consistent rounds of 70-70-68-73-69-68 to finish three shots behind champion Brendon Todd.

Biershenk, a native of Spartanburg, SC, will join Clemson veterans Jonathan Byrd, Lucas Glover, Kyle Stanley and D.J. Trahan as full status members of the PGA Tour in 2012.
