Behr in Third Place at Linger Longer Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Stephen Behr played 36 holes at six-under par on Saturday to lead Clemson to a tie for sixth-place standing after two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation.  Behr stands in third place individually, but will have a chance to be the third different Clemson golfer to win medalist honors in consecutive events on Sunday when the 15-team field plays 18 holes. Robby Shelton of Alabama has the individual lead at nine under par, three shots ahead of Behr.

Number-one ranked Alabama and fifth-ranked Georgia have the team lead going into Sunday’s final round at 20-under-par, 556. Mercer and 15th-ranked Oklahoma are tied for third at 11 under 565.   Kennesaw State is fifth at five under par 571, while Clemson, Chattanooga and Liberty are tied for sixth at 572.

Clemson started the day strong and finished the day strong. The Tigers were eight-under par for their first seven holes, then played last five holes at seven-under.

Behr shot a 70 in the opening round, as he had three birdies and just one bogey. He followed that with a 68 in the second round thanks to six birdies and two bogeys.  It was Behr’s third round in the 60s this years and best since he had 67 at the Dick’s Challenge back on September 22. So his best rounds of the year have both come on the 22^nd of the month.

Blake Kennedy, who is playing just his second tournament of the year, had consecutive rounds of 71 on Saturday and has now had three rounds of par or better in his five scores this year.  Kennedy had six birdies on his first round and four in the second, giving him a team best 10 birdies over the long Saturday.  Kennedy stands in 18^th place individually after two rounds.

Austin Langdale, coming off a victory at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational two weeks ago, had rounds of 72-73 and stands in 32^nd place. Playing the number-one position in the Clemson lineup as a freshman, the native of Pendleton, S.C. made birdies on two of his last four holds, the first and second holes on the course.

Miller Capps, who won medalist honors at the Puerto Rico Classic in the opening tournament of the spring, had consecutive rounds of 74 on Saturday.  His opening round did not count, but his second round did.  Cody Proveaux had rounds of 73-78 on Saturday.
