Back-To-Back: Thomas Named ACC Freshman of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second consecutive week, Clemson freshman outside/right side hitter Solei Thomas was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Thomas was named tournament MVP after leading the Tigers to a 3-0 weekend to win the Clemson-hosted tournament. The Detroit native averaged a team-best 3.90 kills per, totaling 39 kills on 80 attempts to hit .312 on the weekend. Thomas also recorded 7.0 total blocks for the tournament. Her peak performance came in the Tigers’ sweep over North Dakota to secure the tournament title as she posted 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .407.

Thomas’s back-to-back weekly freshman awards are the first for a Tiger since Jessi Betcher won ACC Rookie of the Week on four consecutive occasions in 1999.

Up next, the Tigers head to Tulane’s Sugar Bowl Tournament Friday and Saturday (Sept. 14-15). In New Orleans, Clemson will face Villanova, Little Rock and Tulane.
