GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clemson’s Ani Mijacika was named Atlantic Coast Conference Tennis Player-of-the-Week after posting wins over ranked opponents during the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Kickoff Weekend. The Tiger junior led Clemson to a pair of wins to advance to the tournament’s round of 16.
Mijacika won both her singles matches in straight sets, including a 6-1, 6-2 sweep of Auburn’s 6th-ranked Fani Chifchieva on Sunday afternoon. She avenged a pair of losses to Chifchieva (at the 2009 NCAA Singles and at last fall’s ITA All-American), dropping just three games against the Auburn player. Her doubles win against Auburn proved crucial as the two teams split their matches in singles play.
Mijacika also defeated Boise State’s 104th-ranked player in the opening round on Saturday and is now 16-3 in singles action for the year and 4-0 in dual matches. The conference honor is the fifth of her career.
The Tigers will return to the court on Thursday afternoon as they play host to Furman at 3:00 pm.
