CHAPEL HILL, NC – Tiger women’s tennis player Federica van Adrichem defeated North Carolina’s Caitlin Collins in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Wilson/ITA Southeast Regionals (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) on Sunday, Oct. 16. The freshman from The Netherlands has improved her singles record to 7-2 in the tournament held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina. She will face her second consecutive Tar Heel player and third of the event as van Adrichem and 108th-ranked Jenna Long will take to the court at 9:00 AM on Monday.
Van Adrichem became the first Clemson women’s tennis player to advance to the semifinals of the ITA Regionals since Julie Coin in 2002, which was also her first season as a Tiger. Coin went on to upset the tournament’s number-one seed to claim the championship and earn a spot in the ITA National Indoor tournament.
In the doubles bracket, however, van Adrichem and partner Daniela Alvarez fell in their quarterfinal match-up to Duke’s 11th-ranked team of Daniela Bercek and Jessi Robinson, 8-5. Alvarez was also defeated in her singles contest by Jenna Long, 6-2, 6-1.
