CLEMSON, S.C. – Clemson’s Alix Lacelarie was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Co-Performer of the Week for the week of April 12, 2004. The junior from Villeneuve-Les-Beziers, France won singles matches against Duke and North Carolina over the weekend, improving to 7-0 in conference singles play. Lacelarie shares the weekly honors with Amanda Johnson of Duke.
Lacelarie upset 92nd-ranked Jennifer Zika of Duke by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at flight three singles on Sunday. Her win clinched the 16th-ranked Tigers’ upset over fourth-ranked Duke (5-2) and helped lead Clemson to its first regular season ACC Championship since the 1986 season. On Saturday, Lacelarie defeated North Carolina’s Caitlin Collins in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) to help the Tigers to a 6-1 upset over the 12th-ranked Tar Heels.
This is the fourth time this season that a Clemson women’s tennis player has earned the weekly conference accolade. Junior Tiger Julie Coin was named the ACC Performer of the Week three times this season, for the weeks of February 23, March 8 and April 5.
