Former Tiger Julie Coin Advances in Doubles Action on Wednesday at the U.S. Open

NEW YORK – Former Tiger Tennis player Julie Coin and her doubles partner Marie-Eve Pelletier of Canada defeated the tandem of Laura Granville (USA) and Vladimira Uhlirova (CZE), 6-2, 6-4 in the first round at the U.S. Open. The duo advance to play the #13-ranked group of Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makerova of Russia.

Makerova and Kleybanova went three sets in their first round match, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to advance.

Coin is now into the second round of both the singles and doubles tournament for het first time in her career at a Grand Slam Event. She advances to play the #13-ranked singles player, Nadia Petrova of Russia. Coin is currently ranked 60th in singles and 98th in doubles.

Ironically, both of Coin’s second round opponents are the 13th-ranked players in the world in their respective draws, and all three foes hail from Russia.
