CLEMSON, SC – The 7th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will welcome a pair of top-15 ACC opponents to the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center this weekend, as both #15 Florida State and #9 Miami will travel to Tigertown. The Tigers (12-2, 3-0 ACC) and Seminoles (9-3, 2-1 ACC) will battle at 12:00 pm on Friday, while Clemson will face the Hurricanes (12-2, 3-0) at 10:30 am on Sunday morning.
Friday afternoon’s doubles and singles contests will be broadcast on the Internet at www.ACCSelect.com.
Ani Mijacika leads the Tiger squad with 16 wins in the fall and spring seasons combined. The freshman, who is ranked 64th in the Fila/ITA Tennis singles poll, also boasts an 11-2 record in dual matches with a 3-0 ledger against conference opponents. Meanwhile, sophomore Federica van Adrichem and rookie Estefania Balda own identical 10-3 records and have gone 3-0 in ACC matches so far this season.
The Tigers lead the overall series score against Florida State by a 22-8 margin and have won the last five meetings, including a 4-3 decision in Tallahassee in the 2006 season. Clemson also boasts a 10-3 record in matches played on its home court, most recently sweeping the Seminoles, 7-0, in 2005.
The Hurricanes hold a 16-4 advantage over the Tigers in a series that dates back to 1982. Clemson’s last victory over Miami came during the 1994 season when the Tigers won by a 5-0 margin in Durham, NC. The two teams have met just four times since that match, however, with the Hurricanes claiming each of them.
