Tigers Split Decisions on Saturday Afternoon

Clemson, S.C. — The Clemson women’s tennis program split decisions on Saturday in its final round of non-conference play before opening its ACC schedule. The Tigers first fell, 4-3, to Charlotte but then bounced back to defeat North Carolina A&T, 7-0.

Despite a win by the No. 3 pair Sophia Hatton and Cristina Mayorova (6-3), the Tigers dropped the doubles decision. In singles, Mayorova evened the match at 1-all with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on Court 5. However, the Tigers fell in three straight matches to clinch the 49er victory. Following the clinch, Eleni Louka notched a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory at line two and Jenna Thompson held on to win 6-3, 4-6, 12-10 at No. 1, her fifth-straight win. The result marks the first time in program history that Clemson has lost to Charlotte.

Clemson took the doubles point with wins on Court 1 (6-1) and 3 (6-0). Laura Marti, Zaina Nait Omar, Sophia Hatton and Cristina Mayorova each earned wins without dropping a game. Lana Sipek took line four, 6-1, 6-2, while Jenna Thompson earned her sixth consecutive singles victory, winning 6-4, 6-1.
