Tigers’ Top Doubles Team Wins Flight On Day One of Clemson Fall Invitational

CLEMSON, SC – The Clemson women’s tennis team completed day one of the Clemson Fall Invitational on Friday at the A. Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers number one doubles team of Julie Coin and Laurence Jayet won the flight one doubles championship on the first day of the three-day tournament.

Coin and Jayet advanced to the semi-final round with a bye, and defeated Auburn’s Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez by a score of 8-5 to reach the final. In the championship match, the duo defeated Mary Kovarik and Caroline Bentley of Furman by a score of 8-5.

In number two doubles action, Clemson’s Richele LeSaldo and Ana Stiglic dropped their first match to Renata Barreto and Renata Carceres of Winthrop by a score of 8-3. LeSaldo and Stiglic rebounded to win their next two matches, defeating Troy State’s Mariana Melo and Leslie Gorman, 8-3 and Air Force’s Kelli O’Bryant and Katherine Bushey, 8-4.

At flight three doubles, Clemson’s Anna Dolinska and Ioana Paun were victorious in their first match over Auburn’s Evan Epps and Martina Jonska by a score of 8-3. The team won their semi-final match, defeating Furman’s Shellie Cochran and Lauren Welch, 8-4. In the championship match, Dolinska and Paun fell to Furman’s Krista Thomson and Shannon Moore by a score of 8-5.

The Tigers’ team of Ashlea Bowen and Sunnie Harmon also competed at flight three doubles. The pair fell to Furman’s Krista Thomson and Shannon Moore, 8-2 in the first round and advanced to the fifth-place match with a default win. Bowen and Harmon were defeated by Auburn’s Evan Epps and Martina Jonska by a score of 8-2 in their final match.

The Tigers will begin competition in the singles rounds on day two of the Clemson Fall Invitational on Saturday morning at A. Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson.
