CLEMSON, SC – The 25th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will travel to Maryland and Virginia this weekend to take on the Terrapins on Saturday and the 22nd-ranked Cavaliers on Sunday. The match against Maryland is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Tennis Center at College Park. Clemson will take on Virginia at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville.
The Tigers are 12-3 overall (2-0 in the ACC) after falling to fifth-ranked Florida last weekend, 6-1. Sophomore Julie Coin is currently ranked 21st in singles according to the ITA poll released on Wednesday. Coin is 13-2 in dual singles matches this season and has won seven consecutive matches. She and teammate Laurence Jayet are ranked 31st in the ITA doubles poll, while the Tigers’ team of Daniela Alvarez and Alix Lacelarie are tied for 59th. Alvarez and Lacelarie are undefeated in doubles matches this season (10-0).
Clemson holds a 19-3 all-time advantage over the Terrapins. The Tigers won a 5-2 decision over then-#43 Maryland last season in Clemson. This season, the Terrapins are 8-5 overall and 0-1 in the ACC after falling to Florida State earlier in the week by a score of 6-1.
The Tigers are 22-3 overall in matches against Virginia. In 2002, Clemson defeated the then-48th-ranked Cavaliers by a score of 5-2 at home. Virginia, currently ranked 22nd by the ITA, is 11-4 overall, most recently defeating Oregon by a score of 6-1. The Cavaliers are scheduled to meet 21st-ranked Georgia Tech on Friday afternoon in Charlottesville.
