Nancy Harris, head coach of the two-time NCAA semifinalist women’s tennis team, has announced her squad’s 2005-06 fall and spring schedules. The fall calendar includes a trip to the USTA Women’s Invitational held in New York City on Oct. 7-11. During the spring season, the Tigers will face 13 schools that earned invitations to the NCAA Tournament a year ago, and six of those teams advanced to the 2005 NCAA Championships’ round of 16.
The Tigers will kick off the fall season at the Furman Fall Classic on Sept.30 – Oct.2, which marks the fourth consecutive year Clemson has made the short trip to Greenville. Three additional tournaments are on the calendar for the Tigers, as they will participate in the USTA Women’s Invitational in New York, NY (Oct. 7-11); the ITA Southeast Regionals, held in Chapel Hill, NC on Oct. 13-16; and the ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, OH (Nov. 3-6).
Clemson will open the spring season at home against the College of Charleston on Jan. 28 and will face Virginia Commonwealth, Troy University, William & Mary and Furman at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center before hitting the road.
The team’s dual match schedule is highlighted by a trip to the Northeast to face Ivy League schools Harvard and Brown on Mar. 4-5. The Tigers will also face SEC rivals South Carolina and Georgia on the road on Feb. 19 and 22, respectively. Away matches at Tulane and South Alabama are also listed for Clemson.
The Tigers will begin the ACC schedule against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA on Mar. 1. The team will also face conference foes Florida State, Miami, Duke and North Carolina on the road this season. Clemson will host matches against Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Maryland before closing out the regular season versus N.C. State and Wake Forest at home.
The ACC Championships are scheduled for Apr. 20-23 in Raleigh, NC.
