#15 @ClemsonWTennis Stays Unbeaten in ACC Play With 7-0 Win at Pitt

PITTSBURGH, PA – The 15th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team improved to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in conference play for the first time since 2006 with a 7-0 win over Pittsburgh (3-5, 0-5 ACC) on Sunday at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center. The matchup was not only the first-ever conference meeting between the programs, but the first all-time.  Including last season, the Tigers ran their ACC regular-season winning streak to ten in a row. This season, Clemson has now outscored conference opponents, 31-4, in the five dual matches,which includes a 10-0 mark in doubles matches and a 24-6 (.800) record in singles play.  Clemson swept through doubles with relative ease. Tristen Dewar and Romy Koelzer, playing on court two, and Ani Miao and Jessy Rompies, playing on court three, raced out to the gate to convincing wins. Koelzer and Dewar won 8-2 and improve to 5-1 together on the season. Similarly, Miao and Rompies cruised to an 8-3 match win to move to 8-1 overall. The win for Rompies is her 23rd in doubles this season, a team high. Yana Koroleva and Beatrice Gumulya, the 33rd-ranked pair in the nation, led their match 7-6 but was left unfinished.  Clemson is now 29-5 in duals doubles play on the year, have won 14 of the possible 15 points. In singles, Koelzer continued her strong play at the second position, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win, her fifth straight to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The junior is now 17-6 overall, and 5-0 in ACC play in 2013-14.  Dewar, ranked 100th nationally, earned her 20th win of the 2013-14 season with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court four to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Rompies, playing on court five, took her match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to give Clemson the clinch.  Joana Eidukonyte improved to 3-0 in dual matches with ehr 6-0, 6-2 win on court six. She has dropped just three total games in the three matches. Gumulya won in straight sets on court three, 6-4, 6-3, to give Clemson the 6-0 lead.  Koroleva closed out play with a 6-3, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (10) win on court one to improve to 11-3 in dual matches.  Clemson will play Maryland on Friday at 3 p.m. in College Park before traveling to West Palm Beach, FL to take on North Florida on Sunday at 1 p.m. Tennis Match Results Clemson vs Pitt Panthers Mar 09, 2014 at Pittsburgh, Pa.
