Clemson, SC-The 14th-ranked Clemson men’s soccer team will host 13th-ranked South Carolina this Sunday at 2:00PM at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers (6-2) have won five straight matches and are currently ranked 14th in the latest Soccer America poll. The Gamecocks enter Sunday’s match with a 7-1 overall record that includes a 3-2 double overtime win over third-ranked Furman in their last game.
Clemson is 17-10-1 all-time against the Gamecocks and the Tigers have not lost to their arch rival since 1995. In last year’s meeting in Columbia the two teams battled to 0-0 scoreless tie.
This season for Clemson, senior Ian Fuller and junior Dimelon Westfield lead the team and are tied for second in the ACC with 11 points each. Fuller’s five goals on the season are tied for first in the conference. Ross Goodacre and Steven Rhyne are each tied for second on the team with eight points. Rhyne and senior Kevin Conaway have four assists each and are tied for third best in the league in that category. In goal for the Tigers, junior Doug Warren has started seven out of the eight games and has an impressive 0.73 goals against average that is second best in the league.
Before the match, the Clemson men’s soccer team will present a check to the American Red Cross for their on going disaster relief effort in Washington and New York. The team raised close to $3,500 for the relief effort during a car wash on September 19.
