#14 Clemson Defeats #43 VCU in Women’s Tennis Sunday

CLEMSON, SC – The 14th ranked Clemson women’s tennis team defeated the 43rd ranked VCU 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center. Clemson now improves to 2-0 on the season.

The Tigers won the doubles point by winning two out of the three matches. The pair of Ina Hadziselimovic and Kerri Wong won their match 8-3 to tie it up after Laurianne Henry had fallen to Laura Burns and Kateryna Yergina 8-3. It came down to Estefania Balda, who won their match 8-4 to win the doubles point.

In singles action, #113 Ina Hadziselimovic finished up first, taking down VCU’s Ana Bara 6-4, 6-0 at flight three. Finishing second was fellow Tiger Kerry Wong who won her match 6-2, 6-4 at flight two. Freshman Nelly Ciolkowski, ranked 61st, then defeated Alex Bara 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the win for the Tigers.

At flight one, #9 Laurianne Henry 6-2, 6-3 and Olena Leonchuk won 6-2, 6-1 over Estefania Balda to make it a 5-2 victory for the Tigers.

The Tigers will now to host Troy on January 27 and then the ITA Kickoff Weekend on January 30-31.
