Clemson, SC – Clemson’s Paige Ledford scored the first of her two goals at the 11:50 mark on assists from Heather Beem and Allison Mitchell to give the 10th-ranked Clemson Lady Tigers a 2-0 victory over the College of Charleston in women’s soccer action Tuesday night at Clemson’s Riggs Field.
Clemson, 13-3 on the season, forced the Cougars to defend for the majority of the game and outshot the College of Charleston 30-2. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 6-9-1 on the season. Goalkeeper Alice Keeney recorded 14 saves for the College of Charleston, including several diving deflections.
Ledford’s first score came after the freshman dribbled across the box and fired a shot in the righthand side to beat Keeney. The Ooltewah, Tennessee, native’s second goal came on a fifteen yard shot that deflected off of a Cougars defender and passed the outstretched arms of Keeney. The goal was Ledford’s ninth of the season and she is currently second on the team with 23 points.
“By far, they were the most defensive team that we have played this year,” said Clemson Head Coach Todd Bramble. “I am not satisfied with the way we played and I am happy that the players are dissatisfied as well. We created chances but we simply did not finish them tonight.” Clemson returns to action in the regular season finale against the eighth-ranked Florida Gators on Saturday, November 4 in Gainesville, FL.
