The Clemson women’s track & field squad is in third place after one day of competition at the Clemson Invitational. The Lady Tigers have 18 points, trailing Auburn with 26 and Georgia with 19. Highlighting the Lady Tigers’ performance Friday was Rochelle Kokayko’s Canadian junior record in the weight throw.

Five Lady Tigers competed in the 60m dash prelims, led by Ope Sobanjo at 7.90. In the 60m hurdles, all three of Clemson’s competitors will compete in the finals on Saturday at 11:15 AM. Renata Miyamoto posted the Lady Tigers’ top time of the season at 8.75, while Ashley Robinson finished fourth with a time of 19:05.91 while Kerry Foltz was ninth in 21:13.66.

The distance medley relay team of Casey Phillips, Thea Dix, Patrice McMillan, and Jenny Barton finished fifth with a season-best time of 12:11.02.

In the long jump, Miyamoto finished seventh overall with a mark of 18’0.5″. That was Clemson’s best mark of the young season in that event. Tonya Nwankwo had a preliminary effort of 16’10.25″, while Charmayne Smith had a mark of 15’2.75″ in the prelims as well. Della Clark was fourth in the 20lb weight throw with a mark of 58’5.75″. Krystal Woods had a mark of 56’9.25″ in the weight throw as well.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday to conclude the meet. The triple jump and pole vault will begin competition among the women’s teams beginning at 11:00 AM.
