Women’s Track & Field Productive at Tom Jones Memorial Classic

Gainesville, FL – The women’s track & field team had a productive trip to the University of Florida for the Tom Jones Memorial Classic. The meet was held at the school’s indoor facility, the O’Connell Center. Personal bests were recorded across the board on Saturday.

Polly Hardy was seventh in the 55m hurdles after posting a time of 7.89 in the finals. Her time ranks just shy of a top-five mark in school history in the event. Hardy qualified for the final via a 7.98 in the preliminary round.

Candice Johnson performed well again in the 800m for the Lady Tigers. The native of Duncan, SC had a time of 2:18.13 and was eighth-fastest overall, second-best in her section.

Jenna Baker continues to perform at a high level for Clemson, despite being only a freshman. The Bellevue, OH product put together a time of 9:55.43, a personal best, in the 3000m run and finished in eighth place. Her time ranks among the top performances in the ACC so far this season. She finished directly ahead of three distance runners from Florida State on Saturday.

Stephanie Buffo, another impressive freshman distance runner, was 10th overall in the mile run. She crossed the finish line with a time of 5:03.18, also a top time among ACC athletes so far this season.

Anastasia Wilson and April Sinkler finished fifth and sixth in the high jump, respectively. Both cleared 5’7″, a mark which ranks fifth in school history for the indoor high jump. Wilson’s previous personal best was a 5’6″ clearance on two occasions. Sinkler cleared 5’7″ at the Clemson Invitational last weekend as well.

Mamona finished ninth in the long jump Saturday with a personal best mark of 19’9.75″. Her effort also ranks first among ACC athletes early in the 2008 indoor season. Nakeisha Wineglass finished 13th after a leap of 18’9″, also a personal best. Mamona and Wineglass did not compete in the triple jump due to its late start Saturday evening.

Rochelle Kokayko was fifth in the weight throw after a top mark of 50’10.75″. Catheryne Porter finished 10th overall (47’8.5″).

The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend to compete in the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, NC.
