Women’s Track & Field in Action This Weekend at Clemson Invitational

Clemson, SC – The women’s track & field team will have nearly a full squad of competitors this weekend at the Clemson Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at the school’s indoor facility. More than 20 schools will compete in the meet, which will again feature a team scoring format. Last season, the Lady Tigers finished fourth at the Clemson Invitational.

Liane Weber, an NCAA participant last season in both the pentathlon and heptathlon, will rest this weekend before returning to action for the Multi-Event Challenge on January 25-26. However, the Lady Tigers will have most of their entire squad in uniform in various events.

Patricia Mamona has yet to compete in the triple jump this season, but she will do so Saturday at 11:00 AM. She was an NCAA qualifier last season and ranks second in school history in the event. Linda Buchholz, a strong performer last year as a freshman, will compete in the 60m hurdles and high jump.

Polly Hardy has recorded an NCAA provisional qualifying mark this season in the high hurdles. She and Krystal Barringer, ranked second and third in school history, respectively, will compete in the 60m hurdles prelims Friday evening. The finals will be Saturday at 11:15 AM.

Other events held Friday will be the 60m prelims, 5000m, distance medley relay, long jump, and weight throw. Rochelle Kokayko, who ranks fourth on the school’s performance list, will compete in the weight throw beginning at 6:30 PM.

Caroline Kennedy will headline a group of four pole vaulters Saturday. She ranks among the top five on Clemson’s indoor vault performance list. That event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.

The Lady Tigers will have five competitors in the high jump at 1:00 PM, including sophomore Anastasia Wilson. She has a personal best of 5’6″, which ranks just outside the top marks in school history.

Saturday’s track action includes the 200m, 800m, mile, 3000m, and 4x400m relay. Clemson has five student-athletes entered in the 200m, 800m, and mile. Running the 3000m at 4:10 PM will be a group of four, led by freshmen Jenna Baker, Stephanie Buffo, and Abby Iselborn. The final event Saturday will be the 1600m relay at approximately 5:05 PM.
