Women’s Track & Field Heads to Atlanta This Weekend

March 29, 2007

Clemson, SC - The women’s track & field team will head to Atlanta, GA to take part in the Yellow Jacket Invitational, a meet hosted by ACC foe Georgia Tech. The meet will take place on Friday and Saturday at the George C. Griffin Track Complex. Most of the events will be held Saturday, with only the hammer throw scheduled for Friday.

The Lady Tigers have three regional qualifiers so far this season and will be looking for several more at Georgia Tech this weekend. Polly Hardy has been impressive in the 100m hurdles, as she has posted personal bests in two previous outdoor events this month. That event is scheduled for 2:25 PM on Saturday. Hardy will be joined by three teammates in the field of high hurdlers.

Friday’s hammer throw will prove to be an important event for Clemson, as two of the top performers in that event in school history will be on display. Della Clark, making her outdoor season debut, earned indoor All-America honors in the weight throw. She ranks second in school history in the hammer. Rochelle Kokayko, just a sophomore, is third in school history after a first-place finish with a mark of 184’6″ last weekend at the Clemson Relays. She has posted a regional effort already this season as well.

The 4x100m relay team will take another shot at qualifying for regionals Saturday at 1:30 PM. The group of Ra’Sheena Parker, Michaylin Golladay, and Kristine Scott was just shy of meeting the regional standard last weekend at the Clemson Relays.

Liane Weber and Linda Buchholz, two tremendous newcomers from Germany during the indoor season, will make their respective outdoor debuts for Clemson this weekend. The two will compete in the 200m dash as well as the javelin throw. The events get started Saturday with the javelin throw at 10:30 AM.
