The Clemson women’s track and field team will compete at the 2005 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 17-19 in Chapel Hill, NC. The Lady Tigers will begin competition on Thursday, as the conference meet utilizes a three-day format for the first time. Thursday’s women’s events will include the Pentathlon, as well as the weight throw.
The meet will continue on Friday with the women’s long jump and high jump. The running events will begin on day two, with the women’s mile run trials as the first event on the track.
On Saturday, the shot put, triple jump and pole vault will wrap up the field events, and the finals of the running events will conclude this year’s championships.
Lady Tigers At The 2005 ACC Championships Jessica Earp and Tia Perry will start competition for the Lady Tigers in the pentathlon on Thursday. The two freshmen will be attempting to capture the second ACC pentathlon crown, after Clemson’s Della Clark, Krystal Woods and Mikaela Patterson will also compete on day one, representing Clemson in the weight throw. Clark leads the Lady Tigers in the event, and was an All-ACC honoree in the weight throw a year ago as she placed third with a mark of 57’7″. She is coming off a career-best performance at the Tyson Invitational, where she threw 59’10.25″. Woods and Patterson have recorded throws of at least 55′ this season, with Woods posting a 55’5″ and Patterson throwing 55’3.75″.
Jennifer Barton and Casey Phillips will start competition on day two, representing the Lady Tigers in the trials of the mile run at 1:30 PM. Phillips has a season-best time of 5:05.78, while Barton has run a 5:11.98. Renata Miyamoto will compete in the 60m hurdles trials at 2:15 PM. Hardy owns a best time of 8.65 set last weekend at the Tiger Invitational, and Miyamoto has a season-best time of 8.75 set at the Clemson Twilight meet. At 3:10 PM, the semifinals of the 400m will feature Clemson’s Silja Ulfarsdottir, Jessica Cousins, Randi Hinton. Ulfarsdottir is the Lady Tigers’ leader with a provisional qualifying time of 53.51 set at the Tyson Invitational. Hinton owns a season-best of 55.40, Hill has a best time of 55.62 and Cousins has a season-best of 57.18.
The women’s long jump is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM, featuring Renata Miyamoto. Oliveira is the defending ACC Champion in the event, and has a season-best mark of 19’9.5″ set at the Tyson Invitational last weekend. Moultrie boasts a 19’4.25″ set at the Tiger Invitational, Miyamoto has a season-best of 17’6″ and Rogers has a mark of 17’0″.
The semi-finals of the 60m dash are set for 3:50 PM and will include the Lady Tigers’ Randi Hinton and Danielle Whaley. Hinton turned in her season-best time of 7.62 last weekend at the Tyson Invitational, and Whaley has a season-best of 7.70 set at the Tiger Invitational. At 4:00 PM, Anni Korhonen and Felicia Hawthorne will compete in the high jump. Korhonen cleared a season-best 5’5″, and Hawthorne owns a season-best clearance of 5’2.25″.
Jessica Cousins, Randi Hinton, Danielle Whaley. Hinton set the best Lady Tiger time of the season at the Tyson Invitational last weekend (24.05), while Cousins ran a season-best 24.20 at the same meet. Ulfarsdottir owns a season-best 24.31, Whaley has a 2005-best 25.24, Hardy has posted a 25.42 and this will be Hill’s first 200m race of the season. The Lady Tigers’ distance medley relay team will wrap up day two competition at 6:30 PM.
Saturday’s competition will begin with the shot put at 11:00 AM and will include Della Clark and Renata Miyamoto. Oliveira won the ACC Championship in the triple jump a year ago, and has a season-best automatic qualifying mark of 44’6.25″. Rogers posted a season-best of 41’3.75″ at the Clemson Twilight meet, Miyamoto has a best of 40’5.5″, and this will be the first triple jump competition of the year for Moultrie. At 12:00 PM, Sara Young, Beth Jordan, Helen Kirkland and Kristin Thompson will compete in the pole vault. Young cleared a season-best 12’5.5″ at the Clemson Twilight meet, while Jordan has a season-best of 11’11.75″ set at the Tiger Invitational last weekend. Kirkland also posted her season-best effort last weekend, clearing 10’6″ at the Tiger Invitational. Thompson has turned in a season-best clearance of 10’0″ twice this season.
The track events begin at 12:30 PM with the finals of the mile run, followed by the finals of the 60m hurdles at 1:10 PM. The 400m finals will start at 1:30 PM, the 60m dash finals are slated for 1:50 PM and the 800m run finals will begin at 2:10 PM. At 2:30 PM, the 200m dash finals will begin, followed by the 3000m unseeded at 2:50 PM and the 3000m seeded at 3:30 PM. Jennifer Barton has a season-best time of 10:37.40 in the 3000m, set at the Clemson Invitational. The women’s 4x400m relay will conclude the meet at 4:00 PM. Clemson’s 4x400m relay team of Silja Ulfarsdottir, Jessica Cousins, Randi Hinton and Sierra Hill owns a season-best time of 3:38.81 set at the Tyson Invitational.
