Women’s Tennis To Play Host to South Alabama On Thursday

Feb. 28, 2007

CLEMSON, SC – The 13th-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team will play host to #75 South Alabama on Thursday afternoon at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The Tigers (7-2) and Jaguars (4-5) will take to the court at 2:30 pm.

The match will be the 12th meeting between the two schools in a series that dates back to the 1982 season. Clemson leads the overall score by a 7-4 margin and also holds a 3-2 advantage in contests played on its home court. The teams met in Mobile, AL last season, where the Tigers edged the Jaguars, 4-3. Clemson defeated the Jaguars by the same margin in the 2005 match-up at Hoke Sloan, and the Tigers have won the last four meetings over South Alabama.

Clemson freshman Ani Mijacika boasts an 11-5 overall record with a 6-2 ledger during the dual season, while playing four matches at the top singles slot. She has also teamed with sophomore Federica van Adrichem to post a 5-2 mark in doubles action. The Tiger tandem, ranked #55, recorded two upsets last week at flight one.
