Furman Fall Classic – Day 2
GREENVILLE, SC – Three members of the women’s tennis team played in their first singles action of the 2011-12 season, compiling a 4-2 overall record on the day. They are competing at the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, SC with players from eight schools throughout the southeast. Monika Kochanova’s play highlighted Clemson’s action, as the sophomore won each of her first two collegiate singles matches.
Kochanova will play South Carolina’s Jose Andersson at 10:30 am on Sunday for the flight six championship. She defeated Susan Bitetti of Furman, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and South Carolina’s Adri Perreira, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round.
At flight one, 32nd-ranked Keri Wong won her season opener against Mia Vriens of Florida State, 7-5, 6-4, but fell to No. 27 Mary Anne MacFarlane of Alabama, 7-6, 6-2, sending her ot the third place match. She will play No. 6 ZoeDe Bruycker of North Carolina on Sunday at 9:00 am.
Klara Vyskocilova, ranked 98th in the country, dropped her match against 55th-ranked Alexa Guarachi of Alabama, 6-3, 6-4 at flight two in the first round, but bounced back to defeat Katherine Oudin of Furman, 6-1, 6-2 to earn a spot in the fifth place match. She will play Lauren McHale of North Carolina at 9:00 am.
Clemson players will participate in the ITA All-American Championships from Oct. 1 – Oct. 9 in Pacific Palisades, CA after the Furman Fall Classic.
