Women’s Swimming and Diving Set For Final Session

College Park, MD- Entering the final day of competition, the Clemson Women’s Swimming and Diving team is trying to catch two teams to earn a top four spot at the ACC Championships. Virginia Tech (285 points), and Maryland (284 points) sit directly in front of the Lady Tigers who have accumulated 271 points so far. During the preliminary heats this morning, Clemson placed two swimmers in finals, and two in the consolation finals.

Michelle Parkhurst will be seeded third in tonight’s finals of the 200 backstroke. She swam a time of 2:00.72 to earn the spot. Freshman Rachel Regone will also be competing in finals. Her time of 51.22 was good enough to take the seventh spot for tonight in the 100 freestyle. Junior Sarah Cefalu (2:20.38) and senior Ashley Shafer (2:20.84) earned spots in the consolation finals of the 200 breaststroke for the Lady Tigers. Kim Routh will be competing in the last heat of the 1650 freestyle which will be swum with tonight’s final session.

The Lady Tigers are currently in sixth place in the standings entering the final session. The order of events tonight will be the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and the 400 freestyle relay.
