STORRS, Conn. – The Clemson women’s basketball team will face top-ranked and top-seeded Connecticut Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. in the second round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN 2.
Clemson will enter the game with an 19-11 record overall. The Lady Tigers, seeded ninth in the tournament, defeated eighth-seeded Drake 64-50 on Friday. Clemson is led in scoring by Chrissy Floyd with a 12.2 ppg. average. Erin Batth leads the squad in rebounding with a 7.5 rpg. mark. Batth had a 17 point, nine-rebound performance in the Drake game.
Connecticut is ranked first in both the Associated Press and USA Today polls. They are seeded first in the East Region. The Huskies are 31-1 overall this season. Shea Ralph leads Connecticut in scoring with a 14.5 ppg. average. Svetlana Abrosimova leads the squad in rebounding with a 6.2 rpg. mark.
This will be the third meeting between Clemson and Connecticut on the basketball court. The series is tied 1-1, as both meetings occurred in NCAA Tournament play. The Lady Tigers are 1-0 in Storrs, CT. On March 17, 1990, exactly 10 years ago this past Friday, Clemosn defeated UCONN in Stoors, CT 61-59. Connecticut defeated Clemson 60-57 in the NCAA Final Eight on march 23, 1991.
