Women’s Golf Concludes Play at Schooner Fall Classic

CLEMSON, S.C – The Clemson women’s golf team wrapped up play in the Schooner Fall Classic Monday. The Tigers shot eight-over par for a team score of 288 in the final round, bringing the three-day total to 875. Clemson finished tied for 16^th place with Texas State.

Redshirt sophomore Lauren Salazar was the top Tiger in the event. She tied for 48^th place after shooting five-over par in the final round for a three-day total of 217.

Sophomore McKenzie Talbert, playing in the lineup for the first tournament this season, shot two-over par in the final round and finished tied for 66^th with a three-day total of 221. The round was her best of the tournament.

Freshman Marisa Messana shot a one-under round of 69 in Monday’s final round, the Tigers best round of the tournament and her best of her career by four shots. Messana had 16 pars, two birdies and only one bogey on Monday. She finished tied for 70^th place with a three-day total of 222. 

Sophomore Sloan Shanahan also finished with a three-day total of 222. In Monday’s final round she shot two-over par on the par-70 Belmar Country Club.

Sophomore Jessica Hoang shot a six-over par 76 on Monday and finished with a three-day total of 224.

Mississippi State led after all three rounds and won the tournament by 18 strokes over Arkansas. Texas A&M, Kent State, and UCF rounded out the top five.

The Tigers return to the course October 17-19 when they head to California to take part in the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condoleezza Rice.
