Women’s Cross Country to Compete in Gamecock Invitational on Friday

Clemson, SC – The Clemson women will begin their cross country season Friday by taking part in the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia. The meet, scheduled for a 5000m distance, will be held at Hilton Field in Fort Jackson.

The Lady Tigers return seven letterwinners for the 2007 season, led by their top performer from a year ago, sophomore Laura Laughlin. The Aiken, SC native was the team’s best finisher at the Southeast Regionals in 2006. Sunday Ford has earned a pair of letters with the women’s cross country program. She was the top performer in the Gamecock Invitational last year with a 13th-place showing. Maggie Bernard, Lisa Brown, Candice Johnson, Lauren Klas, and Ashley Vaughn each have one letter as well.

Clemson welcomes a host of newcomers for the 2007 season, led by in-state talent Abigail Iselborn also hope to make an impact this season in their first year with the program.

The Lady Tigers’ lineup for Friday evening has not been determined.
