FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Morganne Campbell scored a career high 16 points but the Clemson women’s basketball team fell to Arkansas, 79-63, on Sunday afternoon in Fayetteville, AR.
The Lady Tigers dropped to 4-5 on the year while the Lady Razorbacks remained undefeated for the season at 8-0.
Ayana Brereton led all scorers with 17 for Arkansas on 6-of-10 shooting, while Lauren Ervin notched a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Whitney Jones and Charity Ford also hit double figures for the Lady Razorbacks, while Brittney Vaughn tallied 10 assists in the contest.
Campbell was 6-for-11 from the field and knocked down a trio of three-pointers for Lady Tigers. The sophomore from Fairburn, GA single-handedly led a second-half Clemson run that cut a 19-point deficit to 12 (55-43) with 9:23 remaining.
However, the surge prompted a timeout by Arkansas Head Coach Tom Collen and the Lady Razorbacks responded to extend their advantage back to 20 within the next three minutes.
The teams were nearly even in shooting percentage, turnovers and steals, but Arkansas dominated the battle on the boards with a 42-29 advantage.
D’Lesha Lloyd and Sthefany Thomas also scored in double figures for Clemson with 12 and 11, respectively. Lele Hardy and April Parker led the rebounding effort with seven apiece.
With the score tied at 23-23, the Lady Razorbacks ended the first period on a 14-4 run for a 37-28 lead at the break.
The Lady Tigers will be back on the road on Wednesday night as they make the short trip to Greenville for a date with Furman. The teams are scheduled for a 7:00 pm tip from Timmons Arena.
