Women’s Basketball Downs Wake Forest, 67-45

Clemson, SC – Chrissy Floyd scored 17 points, had four assists and five steals and Erin Batth had a double-double for the seventh time this year, leading #16 Clemson to a 67-45 victory over Wake Forest Thursday evening at Littlejohn Coliseum. The win improved Clemson to 12-4 overall, 3-2 in the ACC, while Wake Forest fell to 8-7 overall, 1-4 in the ACC.

Floyd hit on 6-14 shots from the field in leading the Tigers in scoring for the seventh straight game. Batth added 10 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in just 24 minutes of time. Marci Glenney was a third Lady Tiger in double figures with 11. Julie Aderhold, who started the contest, added nine, while starting point guard Krystal Scott added eight.

Wake Forest was led by Heather Miller and Olivia Dardy, who both scored 12 points each off the bench. Wake Forest starters combined for just 14 points the entire night and shot 5-17 from the field.

Clemson’s defense had a lot to do with the victory, as the Lady Tigers forced 25 turnovers, 16 off Clemson steals. Wake Forest connected on just 32 percent of its field goals, including just 2-11 three-point goals. Clemson made 45 percent from the field and 76 percent from the line.

Clemson jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game thanks to a stiff defense. Wake Forest committed turnovers on its first five possessions and got just two shots in the first five minutes of play.

Clemson held a 28-11 lead when Wake Forest went on an 8-2 run to close the half. Clemson led by just 36-29 at the 17-minute mark of the second half. Clemson’s defense took over the game again, holding Wake Forest to but two points over the next 7:14. Clemson’s 13-2 run brought Clemson to a 49-31 lead. Erin Batth scored four points during the stretch that put the game out of reach. Wake Forest never got closer than17 points the rest of the night. Clemson’s largest lead was the final score.

“Our full court pressure defense was the key to the game,” said Head Coach Jim Davis. “Our defense generated offense for us, especially in the 13-2 run in the second half. Erin Batth was outstanding on the defensive end. She played under control tonight and that was a key for us.”

Clemson will be at Virginia on Monday night in a game that will be televised at 7:30 PM by Fox Sports Net South.
