CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Orange team defeated the Clemson White team 159-126 in the annual Orange and White intersquad swimming and diving meet held Friday afternoon at McHugh Natatorium. Dual winners Brent Hitchcock and Elise Thieler led the Orange team while Mark Henly, Matt Norman, Kate Walker, Betsy Potter, and Craig Thomas led the White team.
Hitchcock, a freshman from The Woodlands, TX, won the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.71 and the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.64 to help lead the Orange team. Thieler, a sophomore from Harbor Township, NJ, won the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.69 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.57.
For the White team, Henly, a freshman from Denver, PA, won the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 52.88 and 1:55.17, respectively. Sophomore Norman, a native of Vienna, VA, won the 100 breastroke with a time of 59.80 and the 200 breaststoke with a time of 2:10.90. Walker, a freshman from Woodbine, MD, won the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.23 and the 200 backstroke in 2:04.04. Potter, a senior diver from Elmira, NY, won the 1m (239.55) and the 3m (273.825) while Thomas, a sophomore diver from Maryville, TN, won the 1m and 3m with scores of 285.6 and 286.65.
The Clemson swimming and diving team opens its 2000-2001 season on Friday, Oct. 27, as it travels to Virginia Tech for a 3:00 p.m. meet.
