Web Wednesday

Clemson Athletics’ Social Summer promotion continues today, July 10, with Web Wednesday.  Each week a story that encompasses the Clemson experience will be featured on our webpage.  This week’s memory comes from Millie Wooten of Greer, SC.

My first memory of being a Clemson Tiger fan was watching the 1981 National Championship game with my family. I was 7 years old. At the time we were living in Charleston, SC and I had not yet attended a Clemson football game. We always watched the televised games.  We were visiting family in Greenville when the Championship game was on. The next day I remember going out to find National Championship merchandise.  My parents bought me a t-shirt and my mom and dad bought a zip up sweatshirt with the Championship logo on it. I can remember that I couldn’t wait until I was big enough to wear it.

When I was 11 years old we moved back to the Greenville area. It was then that my parents and I started attending home football games. We also made a couple of family trips for away games.  I was already a huge Tiger fan and especially loved football. After attending the home games I was hooked!! I remember one game in particular…it was raining cats and dogs and we were winning BIG and my mother was begging me to leave. No way! I wasn’t leaving until the game was over!!

My love for Tiger football has grown over the years and now I am instilling it into my children. I have funny superstitions and traditions that I practice on game day. I attend the Ladies Football Clinic and Spring Game every year. Danny Ford is my third cousin so I am very proud of my Tiger heritage. I could go on and on about my love for my Tigers. My blood runs orange…always has and always will!! Go Tigers!!
