Volleyball To Travel To Atlanta For The 2002 ACC Tournament

The Clemson volleyball will travel to Atlanta, GA on Friday, Nov. 22 to take on Florida State in the 2002 ACC Tournament. Clemson is seeded fifth entering the tournament to be held Thursday-Sunday in Atlanta, GA at O’Keefe Gymnasium. The Tigers will face the fourth seed, Florida State, on Friday at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the Clemson-Florida State match will advance to the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday to face the winner of the North Carolina-Virginia/NC State match.

The Tigers enter the tournament with a 17-14 overall record and 8-8 mark in conference play. Clemson defeated Florida State in both meetings this season, with a 3-2 win in Jervey Gym and a 3-1 victory in Tallahassee, FL.

Clemson is led by sophomore Lori Ashton with 474 kills and a 3.85 kills per game average. The middle hitter owns a team-best .377 hitting percentage with 99 total blocks (24 solo). Sophomore Leslie Finn is second on the team with 405 kills and a 3.38 kills per game average. Sophomore Ryane Beasley has posted 378 kills with 222 digs, and junior Lindsey Abbott has tallied 251 digs. Junior Marija Zoric has recorded 295 kills and leads the team at the net with 140 blocks (30 solo) and a 1.19 blocks per game average. Senior Jessi Betcher has handed out 1,490 assists with a 12.11 assists per game average. Betcher has tallied a team-best 381 digs and 3.10 digs per game average. Freshman Carly Hill has served a team-best 44 aces with a 0.42 per game average.

Entering this weekend’s tournament, Florida State is 19-11 overall and 10-6 in ACC play. Kristin Frye leads the Seminoles with 416 kills and a 3.59 kills per game average. Frye also leads the team in digs with 241. Erica Bunch is second on the team in kills with 281, while Dawn Hough has tallied 265 kills and a team-best .309 hitting percentage. Hough is the Seminoles’ top blocker with 114 and a 1.04 blocks per game average, and Aisha Carr is second on the team with 113 blocks and a 1.03 blocks per game average. Jennifer Anderson has handed out 1,522 assists with a 13.12 per game average and 220 digs. Alex Sevillano has served up a team best 57 aces for a 0.49 per game average.

Clemson is 12-17 all-time against the Seminoles, and holds a 12-11 mark under head coach Jolene Jordan Hoover. At neutral sites, the Tigers have posted a 1-2 record against Florida State.
