The Clemson volleyball team will travel to Greenville, SC, to play the Furman Paladins Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Timmons Arena.
Clemson owns a 29-0 all-time record against the Paladins, and an 85-24 record against teams in the Southern Conference, including a 3-0 win over the Wofford Terriers last week. The Tigers are 13-0 against Furman on the road, and are looking to add to their four-match winning streak.
The Tigers enter Tuesday’s match with an 8-6 overall record, having captured the Clemson Invitational title last weekend with wins over Virginia Tech (3-0), Coastal Carolina (3-1) and TCU (3-0). Sophomore Lori Ashton leads the Tigers with 189 kills and a .373 hitting percentage. Ryane Beasley is second on the team with 168 kills, while Lesile Finn has recorded 154 kills and 85 digs. Junior Marija Zoric leads the Tigers at the net with 50 blocks (10 solo), and senior Jessi Betcher has handed out a team-best 606 assists. Betcher has also tallied a team-best 165 digs, and freshman Carly Hill has served up a team-high 23 aces.
The Paladins have a 8-7 overall record, having defeated College of Charleston (3-2) and The Citadel (3-0) last weekend in Timmons Arena. Furman is led by Abby Simon with 199 kills and Laura Bush with 179 kills. Julia Fredrickson leads the team in blocks with 46 (12 solo), and Michelle Cauldwell has handed out 618 assists.
Last year the Tigers downed Furman 3-1 in Jervey Gym. Clemson started out slow, dropping the first game 30-28. The Tigers rebounded and dominated the next three games 30-15, 30-15, 30-16. Ashton tallied 14 kills with a .385 hitting percentage and a match-high seven blocks (one solo). Beasley recorded 16 digs with four blocks, and Betcher had a career-high six service aces with 46 assists. The Paladins were led by Bush with 13 kills, 10 digs, a .357 hitting percentage and six blocks (one solo).
